Materials Science

This course introduces the scientific principles that govern the structure and properties of key engineering materials, including metals, ceramics, semiconductors, and polymers. Students will explore the physical properties of materials—mechanical, electrical, thermal, and optical—and how these properties relate to their underlying structure across various length scales, from atomic packing to micron-scale defects. The course emphasizes a deep understanding of material behavior through the lens of thermodynamics and kinetics, providing students with the theoretical foundation to analyze and apply these principles to practical engineering challenges.
